Youtube Player for Windows 8 is a video streaming app

for Windows 8 and Windows RT that allows you to search and watch YouTube videos.

YouTube Player is one of the first YouTube apps on Windows 8. Unfortunately, it is missing a few features. When the app first came out, there was no option to log into your YouTube account. Thankfully, that has been fixed and now you can see your favorites and view your subscriptions.

If find it a bit odd that Youtube Player for Windows 8 is missing the ability to view and make comments on videos. All it offers is a description field. There's no ability to like or favorite a video from within the application. There's also no information about how many likes/dislikes or video views there are. Videos also start immediately with no option to alter this behavior in Youtube Player for Windows 8.

In the options, you'll find the ability to specify what format you prefer. If you have a quick internet connection, you can tell Youtube Player for Windows 8 to load 1080p or 720p video whenever available.

On the plus side, Youtube Player for Windows 8's interface is easy to navigate and searches were performed quickly. There are also video lists of top rated and trending videos. There's no way to browse categories within YouTube Player.

Overall, Youtube Player for Windows 8 is a mixed bag of features. Casual users will find Youtube Player for Windows 8 more than adequate but power users will want to look elsewhere.
